Baby Angels Class

The Baby Angels Class is designed for children ages 3–4. Through a variety of fun and engaging activities—including singing, dancing, cutting and pasting, and drawing—children are naturally introduced to the basic sounds, consonants, and vowels of the Korean alphabet. Various audiovisual materials and hands-on activities also help them become familiar with the Korean language and culture in an enjoyable way.

At the school performance, students have opportunities to introduce themselves, sing Korean children’s songs, and share their special talents in front of their parents and older students. These experiences help build confidence and develop their ability to express themselves.

Angels Class

The Angels Class is designed for kindergarten-age children, ages 5–6. Students learn Korean consonants and vowels through a variety of art activities that also help develop fine motor skills and creativity. Since opportunities to experience Korean culture can be limited while growing up in the United States, the class emphasizes not only Korean language learning but also meaningful exposure to Korean culture.

Special activities in the Angels Class primarily focus on art. At times, Korean language learning is incorporated into creative art projects so that children can learn through play while developing their imagination and creativity. Lessons also introduce themes related to traditional Korean culture, encouraging children to use Korean naturally while learning through enjoyable, hands-on experiences.

As our students grow, they may one day begin to explore questions about their cultural identity. We hope that the Korean language and cultural experiences they build from an early age will provide them with strong roots and a lasting connection to their heritage. With this goal in mind, we thoughtfully prepare each week’s lessons with care.

Peace Class(Korean Sprouts Class)

The Peace Class is designed for students in grades 1–5 who are learning the fundamentals of the Korean language.

The class focuses primarily on developing basic Korean reading and writing skills. Teachers read a variety of Korean storybooks, including traditional folktales and contemporary children’s stories, and students discuss the stories together while participating in curriculum-related games and activities.

Taking into consideration students’ ages and language environments, the class emphasizes helping them develop a natural interest in learning Korean. Various multimedia resources are also incorporated to make learning more engaging and effective, with the goal of building foundational Korean language skills through communication-centered activities.

Students practice Korean through hands-on activities such as drawing letters and pictures, cutting and pasting, and speaking about images related to their lessons. These age-appropriate, experiential learning methods help students become more comfortable and familiar with the Korean language.

Homework may include writing assignments as well as activities submitted through Padlet. Students also memorize and present Korean children’s songs and poems, helping them develop confidence and strengthen their speaking and presentation skills.

Light and Salt Class(Korean Growth Class -Intermediate)

The Light and Salt Class consists primarily of middle and high school students and is divided into two groups according to Korean proficiency level. To make learning more engaging and effective, the class incorporates elements of Havruta, a traditional Jewish partner-based discussion and learning method. Using vocabulary and lesson content they have studied, students work in pairs at the front of the classroom, asking each other questions and checking their answers together.

When an answer is incorrect, students are encouraged to explain concepts using words or drawings and to exchange questions and hints with their partners. This process helps them develop a deeper understanding of vocabulary and sentence meaning. After these interactive activities, students move on to reading passages and completing exercises with greater comprehension and confidence.

In addition to textbook-based Korean language instruction, students use a variety of audiovisual and multimedia materials to explore Korean daily life, K-pop culture, Korean history, and other topics, broadening their understanding of Korea and Korean culture.

Emmaus Class

The Emmaus Class is designed primarily for adult learners and focuses on practical Korean language skills and Korean culture. Students learn everything from basic grammar to useful expressions for a variety of everyday situations, with instruction adapted to their individual proficiency levels. A wide range of multimedia resources is also incorporated to provide a broader understanding of both the Korean language and culture.

The primary goal of the class is to develop practical Korean communication skills while expanding students’ understanding of Korean society and culture. Students reinforce what they have learned through partner activities, role-playing, and question-and-answer exercises, giving them opportunities to apply Korean to real-life situations.

Lessons are built around familiar topics such as family, friends, school, and everyday life. Students are encouraged to apply vocabulary and grammar naturally when expressing their own thoughts. Rather than simply memorizing grammar rules and vocabulary, the emphasis is on developing the ability to use Korean confidently in everyday situations.

Students are also exposed to authentic Korean through K-pop, Korean dramas, videos, articles, and other media. These materials help broaden their interest in and understanding of contemporary Korean culture and society. When appropriate, students may also read English-language articles about Korea and discuss them together.

Although students are encouraged to communicate in Korean as much as possible during class, both Korean and English may be used flexibly during discussions and activities so that students of all proficiency levels can participate comfortably and actively. Lessons are differentiated according to individual language levels while also providing opportunities for group discussions and collaborative learning.

Because students enter the class with different levels of Korean proficiency, they also learn from and support one another. Students who are more comfortable with Korean naturally assist their classmates with comprehension and expression, creating a collaborative learning environment. Through these interactions, students build confidence, learn from one another, and develop their Korean language skills and cultural understanding in an engaging and effective way.
